Winter is coming…. Well, Winter has ended but, that doesn’t mean you can’t binge watch over 72 hours of Game of Thrones! If you love dragons, epic battle scenes, medieval politics, and beautiful musical scores, you are sure to become an instant fan of the show.

Set in the mythical land of Westeros, nine noble families contend for rule of the land and to lay claim to the Iron Throne. You will adore, or hate, the variety of characters the show has to offer. Be prepared to be awed by the European backdrops where the show was filmed and mesmerized by the brilliantly choreographed battle scenes. Brace yourselves for stunning movie quality special effects. Game of Thrones is a story rich with foreshadowing, historical parallels, and engrossing character development.

I, like many, succumbed to peer pressure and decided to see what all the hoopla was about. With the season finale imminent, I binge watched 7 seasons over the span of a month! I was able to check out seasons 1-6 here at the Mary & Jeff Bell Library, and I streamed the 7th season and finale of the show. Never having read the books, I knew nothing of Game of Thrones, but I quickly became absorbed by the show. By the end of season one, I found myself researching Game of Thrones lore and watching video clips about the show. I was completely invested.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan, or new to the land of Westeros, the library owns seasons 1-6 to check out! If you have a Sanddollar ID, you can check out Game of Thrones DVDs from the library. Here is a link for loan period and rules. You can browse our online catalog for DVDs or, visit upstairs next to the windows to view the DVD collection.

Seen the show and now want to read the books? Prefer reading before watching? We carry the books too!! Visit the Popular Reading collection, located on the first floor between the Circulation Desk and the elevators, to grab books 1-5 of the series.

If I haven’t convinced you to check out this show, please, do yourself a favor, and give it a chance. Fulfill your needs of drama, action, and adventure, and follow along on the journey of Game of Thrones.
