Yoo Hoo! Check us out on YouTube!

We’re all adjusting to some changes right now, and just like you (probably), the library is working from home now! This means we’ve had to adapt our services a bit. We’re buying more ebooks, we’re responding to chats, phone calls, and email reference questions from our homes, and finally, we’ve taken our instruction online!

We’re really missing our students these days, and not getting to see you all in the library is honestly a bummer. But just because we can’t see you doesn’t mean we’ll stop trying to help you access and utilize electronic resources like databases and research guides.

Face to face instruction is so last semester, so to stay hip (and healthy), we’ve starting recording short instruction sessions and hosting them on our YouTube Channel! The channel has been around for a couple of years now, but much like fondue and scrunchies, it’s making a comeback.

Our channel hosts a few different kinds of videos. We’ve got how-to demonstrations, informative presentations on topics like plagiarism and Open Access publishing, as well as some clips of life inside the library which you can watch while ugly crying because we know you miss us as much as we miss you.

Now sadly, just searching for “bell library” doesn’t bring up our channel—it just gets you that Beauty and the Beast library scene which may or may not be the reason I’m a librarian. But a search for “Mary and Jeff Bell Library” or “Bell Library Channel” will bring up our page! Or you could go there right now and bookmark us or subscribe!

Whatever you decide to do, just remember that we’re here for you. If you’re struggling with a particular concept or tool, reach out to your liaison librarian and ask for help. It’s very literally what we’re here for. We might make a video and put it on YouTube, or we might just walk you through the steps to get you the information you need. Either way, we gotchu.

Lots of things are harder right now. We feel isolated and tasks feel overwhelming. But please don’t let research be the thing that knocks you off track. We’re here so you don’t have to figure it out on your own. Call us, email us, chat with us, or just check us out on YouTube. We look forward to hearing from you.
