Is the book you need checked out? Does Bell Library not own it? Want a PDF of an article or book chapter? Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and document delivery can get you what you need. It’s free, fast, and available to all TAMU-CC students, faculty, and staff.

There is no limit to the number of items you may request.

PDFs and Scans

Items that can be scanned or requested

  • Articles and book chapters
Article and Book Chapter Restrictions
  • Chapters from books that are on Reserve, or in Special Collections cannot be scanned
  • Scans from Bell Library’s collection are limited to 50 pages or less
  • One article or chapter is allowed per request form
  • We cannot scan chapters from books you have checked out or on hold
  • There is no rush processing available for the service
  • When requesting scans, you are responsible for adhering to copyright law

Books, Media, and other physical items

Items that can be loaned from other libraries

  • Books, reports, thesis, dissertations, government documents, audio visual materials, newspapers and microfilm

Loan Restrictions

  • Items currently on Reserve or in Special Collections will not be ordered
  • Rush shipping is unavailable
  • Especially rare or fragile items may be limited to use only within the library
  • Loans cannot be picked up by anyone but you, unless you're a faculty member who has filled out a Check-Out Authorization Form

I need my checked out book for longer

Renewals

Some libraries will grant due date extensions, known as renewals, for certain items allowing you to keep the item for longer. Renewal information will be printed on the paper band affixed to your item.

Getting another copy

If you need a book for longer, and the lending library does not allow renewals (or your renewal request has been denied), you can place a new interlibrary loan request (or clone your existing one) and we'll order another copy from a different library.

What if my loan is overdue, lost, or damaged

Overdue items may incur daily late charges.

If your item is more than 30 days past due, you will be billed an additional $125 replacement fee. In most cases, this fee is waived once you return the item undamaged.

Lost items will be billed for the full cost of replacement as determined by the lending library.

Once you check out a book, you are responsible for it until it's returned to Bell Library Circulation Desk. So, please, treat it well by not writing or highlighting in it, and by keeping it clean, dry, and safe from damage, otherwise you'll have to pay to have it replaced. Damaged items will be returned to the lending library for assessment and the cost of repair or replacement will be charged to your account.
